ChromaticGa - Original Oil Painting

Background

An original oil painting depicting one of the world’s most iconic women, as part of the developing pop-art series ‘Chromatic Icons’, which celebrates human form mixed with an array of vivid, psychedelic and entrancing designs. Lady Gaga is embraced as part of this series as an undeniable icon, an artist, a person who is a figure head of progressive activism for queer people and feminism. I chose to include her for her symbolism of values and image, which resonates with what I want to communicate as an artist. I felt there was not an example of portraiture adorning Lady Gaga that was enough, that was glorious enough, so created my own on behalf of the community and positioned her as an almost religious figure, a God-like, angelic idol. The orange and purple palette represents her warmth, the joy she brings, the optimism; as well, reds, which speaks of the passion she exudes.
