Amy - Original Oil Painting

Background

A deeply meaningful painting to me, Amy Winehouse is one of my truest loves and influences, her as an artist, her as the individual. I felt honoured painting her, imbued by deep connection, and adored the process. I wanted to create this piece during the month of my 27th birthday, the same age Amy was when she sadly passed away in 2011; this was a significant detail, I could truly embrace how this age feels, the world feels to me, and put it into the work. For me, doing this highlighted the impact she had in such a short span of time on earth and so embedding her importance to music, as well as her role in this series of artworks. The colours are possibly the most entrancing part, the coolness and depth of the blues, the toxicity and acidity of the greens, harmoniously speak to Amy’s character, her artistry, the poetry of it, and complexity of her life.
